I'm Rohit Ghumare - That DevOps Guy, and wow, what a phenomenal year 2024 has been! 🎉 As we wrap up this incredible journey, I'm excited to share the highlights of our cloud-native adventures together.
Exciting major news!
I've been named very few of the first Platform Ambassadors 🚀🏆
This has not been announced anywhere yet - I’m CNCF 2025 Marketing Co-chair now 🚀
And I'm thrilled to share this with you all before sharing anywhere else.
Happy New Year Everyone!! Have a great 2025 year ahead ✨
2024 was a very inspiring year for me. I moved to the UK 🇬🇧, Learned to cook, and Learned to live alone for the first time in my life. It’s not as easy as it sounds, but I loved this experience. Travelled 5 countries - 2024 Year Resolution ✅, Contributed to awesome projects in open-source, built my own projects, etc, and learnings keep going on.
2024 has been a year of unexpected turns and remarkable growth. When I was laid off from Cerbos earlier this year, it felt like a setback. However, this challenge became a catalyst for focusing entirely on my firm, DevRel as Service. In the last six months alone, I've had the privilege of working with over five clients, including Taikun and Sevalla, who were among my first Pro customers. This experience has reinforced the importance of resilience and adaptability in the face of change.
As I reflect on this journey, I'm reminded of a valuable lesson: sometimes, what seems like a closed door is actually an opportunity to build your own path. The support from my network, which I've cultivated over the years, proved invaluable during this transition.

Cloud Native and DevOps: A Year of Breakthroughs
2024 has been a landmark year for cloud native technologies and DevOps practices. Let's dive into some of the major announcements and events that shaped the industry:
CNCF Project Milestones:
Jaeger v2 was released, showcasing a new architecture based on the OpenTelemetry Collector framework.
KubeVirt v1.4 brought network hotplug, common instance types, NUMA topology support, and GPU assignment to GA.
Microsoft's Hyperlight: The Azure Core Upstream team announced Hyperlight, an open-source Rust library for executing small, embedded functions using hypervisor-based protection9.
AWS kro and EKS Auto: AWS released kro (Kube Resource Orchestrator) and EKS Auto to simplify the use of custom APIs and resources with Kubernetes.
CNCF Technology Landscape Radar: CNCF released its Technology Landscape Radar, focusing on multicluster application management solutions and batch/AI/ML compute technologies.
KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe and North America 2024: This flagship event in Paris showcased 500+ sessions, keynotes, and breakout sessions, along with 90 CNCF project maintainer-hosted sessions.
AI Integration in DevOps: 2024 saw increased adoption of AI and Machine Learning in DevOps practices, enhancing automation in testing, deployment, and monitoring.
Shift Towards Serverless Architecture: The industry continued its move towards serverless architecture, allowing developers to focus more on code rather than server management4.
Rise of Infrastructure as Code (IaC): IaC gained wider adoption, driven by the need for faster, more consistent, and scalable infrastructure deployment.
Emphasis on DevSecOps: Security integration into the DevOps process became increasingly important, ensuring that security considerations are part of the entire development cycle.
In 2024, several projects graduated from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), marking significant milestones in their development and adoption within the cloud native ecosystem. The following projects achieved CNCF graduation status this year:
KubeEdge
KubeEdge graduated on October 15, 2024
This project extends cloud native technology to the edge, fostering a robust edge-cloud computing ecosystem. Since joining CNCF, KubeEdge has grown to include maintainers from 15 organizations and has attracted over 1,600 contributors from more than 35 countries and 110 organizations.
Dapr
Dapr (Distributed Application Runtime) graduated on November 12, 2024
It provides a portable runtime that simplifies the building of resilient distributed applications across cloud and edge environments. Dapr has grown to over 3,700 individual contributors from more than 400 organizations and is used by tens of thousands of companies.
cert-manager
cert-manager achieved graduation status on November 12, 2024
This open-source security project automates highly secure, encrypted data communications in cloud native environments. cert-manager has become a crucial tool for managing X.509 certificates in Kubernetes clusters, reflecting its widespread adoption and production readiness.
